Facilitation is literally "to make easy". The role of a facilitator is to aid groups create desired outcomes, solve problems and achieve their goals. Facilitators draw on the resources of the group and guide the change process, ensuring that all contributions are recognised and valued.

Facilitation benefits organisations by bringing in an independent person who can establish a shared framework of understanding and guide groups through a process to achieve desired results. Skilfully facilitated groups avoid conflict and competition and integrate individual perspectives to realise the group's effectiveness potential. Facilitation is a core leadership competency and a valued skill, it can't be learned at one training course and requires years of experience working with groups.
